The centralized spiral feeding and compaction production line for short metal chips is a classic and highly efficient solution for processing metal chips (especially steel chips, cast iron chips, non-ferrous metal chips, copper chips, copper granules, and aluminum chips). This production line aims to transform scattered, loose, easily oxidized, and difficult-to-transport short metal chips into high-density, well-formed cakes through a centralized, conveying, and compaction process, thereby achieving:

A volume reduction ratio of 1:3 to 1:10 significantly reduces storage and transportation costs.

1. Centralized System (Front End):

Collection Bin/Pit: Metal scraps from each machine tool are collected into designated bins or pits via chip conveyors or manual labor.

Screw Feeder Hopper (One of the Core Elements): This is a collection hopper equipped with a horizontal or inclined screw conveyor. Its function is not only storage but also to uniformly and controllably feed material to the briquetting machine. The screw conveyor breaks up bridging and ensures a continuous and stable flow of material to the next stage. The hopper volume can be designed according to production output.

2. Conveying and Lifting System (Connection):

Screw Conveyor/Scraper Conveyor: This conveys the metal scraps from the centralized hopper horizontally or inclined to the upper hopper of the briquetting machine. For long distances or complex routes, this part may consist of multiple sections.

Magnetic Separator (Optional but Important): A magnetic separator is usually installed during the conveying process to separate out any non-magnetic impurities that may be mixed in (such as plastics, rubber, stainless steel in aluminum scraps, etc.), improving the purity of the briquetting blocks.

3. Pressing and Forming System (Core Unit):

Metal Shavings Pressing Machine: The heart of the production line. Typically a vertical four-column hydraulic press. Its working process is: receiving metal shavings from the feeding system → main cylinder driving the punch for high-pressure compression (pressure can reach hundreds of tons) → pressure holding and shaping → ejecting the formed biscuit.

Key Features:

High Pressure: Ensures the biscuit reaches the required density.

Automatic Circulation: Interlocked with the feeding system, achieving automatic feeding, compaction, and biscuit output.

Selectable Biscuit Size: Biscuit weight varies from a few kilograms to tens of kilograms, with shapes mostly cylindrical or square.

4. Discharge and Processing System (Back End):

Discharge Slide/Conveyor Belt: Transports the pressed hot biscuits out for natural cooling.

Biscuit Collection Box/Pattern: Centrally stores the cooled biscuits, awaiting shipment.

5. Control System (Brain):

PLC Automatic Control: Integrates the entire production line, achieving fully automated control from feeding, pressing to discharge. Parameters can be set, status monitored, and fault alarms provided.

II. Typical Workflow

1. Collection: Short metal chips generated by various machining equipment are poured into a centralized spiral feed hopper via the machine tool chip conveyor or manually.

2. Pre-feeding and Homogenization: The spiral inside the feed hopper begins to rotate, evenly distributing the metal chips, which are then lifted by the conveying system to the top hopper of the patty press.

3. Metering and Filling: After the patty press hopper reaches the predetermined material level, the metal chips are placed into the mold cavity according to the set weight or volume.

4. High-Pressure Pressing and Forming: The main cylinder of the patty press operates, applying enormous pressure to the punch, compressing the loose metal chips into a dense patty. This process squeezes out residual cutting fluid (which can be recovered through the collection tank).

5. Demolding and Discharge: After compaction and pressure holding, the bottom ejector cylinder pushes the patty out of the mold cavity, and the patty is transported out via a slide or conveyor belt.

6. Circulation and Collection: The equipment automatically enters the next cycle. The produced chips are cooled and stacked for storage.

 

III. Key Considerations and Selection Points

Material Characteristics: The type of metal chips (steel, iron, copper, aluminum), shape (roll, sheet, granules), length, moisture content, and oil content directly affect equipment selection. "Short chips" are the most suitable type for this production line.

Processing Capacity: Determine the production line scale based on the average daily or hourly chip production (kg/hour or ton/day).

Chip Specifications: Determine the required chip size (diameter, thickness) and weight, which determines the model of the pressing machine and the mold.

Automation Level: Fully automatic, semi-automatic, or manual feeding? Is it necessary to interface with a central chip removal system?

Auxiliary Functions: Is a cutting fluid recovery system required? Is forced cooling required? Is a heavy-duty chip baler required?
