Description

Copper Chips refers to the small chips or shavings generated during the mechanical machining of copper and copper alloys. It is a very important and common material in the recycled metals industry. Its characteristic is a loose, curled, elongated, or fragmented chipping form, with a very large surface area.

1. Main Composition: Can be pure copper (red copper) or various copper alloys, such as brass (copper-zinc alloy), bronze (copper-tin alloy), etc.Generation Process: Produced during cutting, milling, drilling, and grinding of copper parts on machine tools like lathes, milling machines, and drill presses.

2. Primary Sources: Automotive Parts Manufacturers: Producing cylinder head gaskets, valves, bearings, etc; Plumbing Fitting Factories: Producing faucets, valves, pipe fittings; Electronic Connector Factories: Producing lead frames, terminals; Electrical Equipment Manufacturers: Producing radiators, motor components; Machine Shops: Any facility involved in machining copper alloy components.

3. Main Applications: Recycled copper turnings are primarily used as high-quality secondary copper raw material for:Remelting to Cast Copper Ingots/Billets: After processing, they are remelted into copper ingots or billets for producing new copper materials or components; Production of Copper Alloys: Brass turnings are a key raw material for producing new brass, allowing for precise control of zinc content; Direct Use: Small amounts of high-purity copper turnings may be used in special applications like chemical catalysts.

4. Key Specifications and Classification

In the recycling trade, copper turnings are classified and priced very precisely, mainly based on the following indicators: Material Type/Grade: This is the most important classification, directly determining value;

Red Copper Turnings:

Highest purity, highest value;

Brass Turnings: Subdivided into various grades (e.g., H62, H65) based on zinc and other element content;

value lower than red copper;

Bronze Turnings and other special copper alloy turnings;

Cleanliness/Purity: Refers to the content of impurities;

Clean/Dry Turnings: Free from oil, water, iron, plastic, dust, and other substances. Highest value;

Oily Turnings: Contain cutting fluid or lubricating oil. Subject to a price discount;

Mixed with Iron/Other Metals: Contains other metal impurities, high processing cost, value is significantly discounted;

Dirty Turnings/Soil-Bearing: Mixed with sand, soil, and dust, severely impacting the copper yield rate;

Form and Density: Loose turnings have a large volume, resulting in high transportation and melting costs;

turnings pressed into briquettes are denser and more desirable.

5. Market and Pricing

Price Determinants: The price closely follows the SMM (Shanghai Metals Market) or Yangtze River Nonferrous Metals' electrolytic copper price, but is subject to a significant discount based on the aforementioned material type and cleanliness.

Copper Yield Rate: This is a core concept. Recyclers estimate the actual copper content of a batch of turnings by sampling, drying, and smelting. For example, the copper yield rate for a batch of clean brass turnings might be around 58% (because brass itself contains about 60% copper, plus processing losses).

Pricing Method: The price is typically calculated as (Electrolytic Copper Price × Yield Rate × Discount Factor) - Processing Cost. The discount factor accounts for melting loss, processing costs, and quality risk.

6. Recycling Process

The recycling process for copper turnings is more complex than for aluminum cable granules, as they often contain oil and impurities.

Pre-treatment: Magnetic Separation: Use powerful magnetic separators to remove mixed iron scraps.

De-oiling/Centrifuging: Separate most of the cutting oil via centrifuges (this oil can also be recovered).

Core Processing:

Drying: Remove moisture and residual oil in specialized drying ovens.

Briquetting: Compress the loose turnings under high pressure into compact briquettes, significantly reducing volume and improving smelting efficiency and safety.

Smelting: The copper briquettes are fed into a smelting furnace, where fluxes (like borax) are added for refining to remove oxides and other trace impurities, ultimately casting them into copper ingots.

Copper turnings are a high-value recycled resource, but their processing and requirements are more stringent than other scrap materials. The core of their value lies in the accurate separation of materials and the control of impurity content. Engaging in this industry requires high attention to safety, environmental compliance, and quality assessment.

FAQ

> What briquette weight can the copper granules hydraulic briquetting press machine make?

Normally speaking, the briquette weight ranges from 0.2kg to 30kg, it vary according to your metal scrap and your requirement, we have standard briquette size and bale weight, can send you the catalogue for your reference.

> What is cooling system of Metal Shavings Briquetter press?

Normally speaking, for the cooling of briquette press, we have 2 types of cooling system, one is water cooling, this cooling system is economical and easy to achieve cooling effect, and another type is industrial chiller which have better cooling effect than waste cooling, oil chiller cover small space, but price is just a little high than water cooling.

> How can i know you are a manufacturer or trader of Metal Chip Baling Machine?

 You can visit our factory personally, also you can ask technical drawings such as 2D drawings 3D Drawings, we have professional technical team working on this, and will not give you these if a trader, because they don't have ability on this.

> Does Metal Scraps Chips Briquetting Machine Sales In Usa need any foundation installation?

For small briquette press, just put it on the horizontal cement ground, that is OK, and for heavy duty briquette press, then need a foundation, we will send you a foundation drawing before you install the briquette press.

> Is it possible to press other metal chips with Bronze millings briquetting press?

Yes, of course, the briquette press can press various of m aluminum chips,aluminum shavings,steel shavings,metal chips, iron chips, metal powder, copper chips, brass chips, brass swarfs, copper powder, etc... Please let us know what kind of metal chips will you need to press, then we will suggest you suitable model briquette press machine and best offer accordingly.

> How much is the shipping cost of Hydraulic Metal Chip Baler?

The shipping cost is varying over time,and different models of briquette press machine will need different containers to hold, if peak season and bigger models, the shipping cost will be higher, and on the contrary, the cost will be lower.

> What kind of payment method do you accept for Pressing Machine Briquettes Iron Powder?

We offer secure and flexible payment terms to facilitate a smooth transaction. Our standard accepted methods are: T/T (Telegraphic Transfer/Bank Wire): This is the most common method. We typically structure it as follows: 30% down payment with the purchase order.70% balance payment before shipment; L/C (Letter of Credit) at Sight: We accept irrevocable Letters of Credit issued by a reputable bank. All charges are for the applicant's account.For established business partners, alternative arrangements such as a D/P (Documents against Payment) may be considered upon credit review.

We will be pleased to discuss and specify the agreed-upon method in our Proforma Invoice for your convenience.
