Description

Scrap Lead Strips are pieces of solid lead that have been cut, trimmed, or formed into a long, narrow, and relatively flat shape. They are a common form of lead scrap generated in various construction and industrial processes.

Key Characteristics:

Form: They are typically flat, rectangular, or ribbon-like, distinguishing them from chunks, chips, or pellets;

Source: They are often a leftover byproduct from cutting or shaping larger sheets of lead for specific applications;

Properties: They retain all the key properties of elemental lead;

High Density: Very heavy for their size;

Malleability: Soft and easily bent, cut, or shaped by hand;

Corrosion Resistance: Highly resistant to water, acids, and many chemicals;

Low Melting Point: Melts at just 327°C (621°F), making it easy to cast and recycle;

Toxicity: This is the most critical characteristic. Lead is a potent cumulative neurotoxin. Handling scrap lead strips can generate dust and contaminate surfaces, posing serious health risks.

Common Sources of Scrap Lead Strips: Roofing and Construction: Trimmings from lead sheet used for flashing, roofing, and waterproofing;

Radiation Shielding: Off-cuts from lead sheets used to line walls in X-ray rooms, nuclear medicine facilities, or laboratories;

Wastewater/Plumbing: Leftover material from lead wool or strip seals used in older pipe joints (now largely obsolete).

Uses and Applications of Scrap Lead Strips

The uses for scrap lead strips are primarily centered on recycling and a few niche, hands-on applications. Due to health and environmental concerns, their use is much more restricted than other non-toxic metals.

1. Recycling and Re-melting (The Primary Use): This is the most common, practical, and environmentally responsible use for scrap lead strips;

Process: The strips are collected and sent to a smelter or foundry to be re-melted;

New Products: The molten lead is cast into:Lead Ingots: For sale and future use;

New Lead Sheets: For construction and shielding;

Lead-Acid Batteries: This is the single largest market for recycled lead, accounting for over 80% of its use. The lead is used for battery plates and terminals.

2. DIY Casting (for Hobbyists and Specialists): Due to its low melting point, scrap lead strips are easily melted in a small pot over a hotplate or propane burner;

Fishing Weights & Sinkers: A traditional and common use where hobbyists cast their own weights in various shapes and sizes;

Bullets & Shot: Used by ammunition reloaders to cast bullets for handguns, rifles, or shotgun pellets;

Decorative Metal Objects: Used to cast small figurines, tokens, or other objects.

3. Radiation Shielding (Custom Fabrication): Strips can be manually shaped and layered to create custom shielding for small gaps, joints, or irregularly shaped equipment in X-ray or laboratory settings. They are often used as a cost-effective "fix" where standard panels don't fit.

4. Weighting and Ballast: The high density of lead makes it ideal for adding weight in small spaces.

Store scrap lead strips in a sealed, clearly labeled container to prevent dust release.

Scrap lead is classified as hazardous waste. It must not be disposed of in regular trash. It must be recycled by a certified metal recycler that accepts lead or taken to a licensed hazardous waste disposal facility.

FAQ

> What is warranty time of the Lead strips briquetting machine?

The warranty time of the briquette press machine is 12 months normally, also can you can pay extra fees for more times such as 24 months or 36 months, within the warranty time, we are responsible for the briquette press machine except the spare parts.

> Are the interchangeable wear plate installed on Lead Chips Briquettes Press?

Yes, the wear steel plate is changeable, you can easily change it when which wear plate is going to change.

> How long of warranty time of Lead Chip Briquetter?

The warranty time is 14 months, in another word, 1 year from date of shipping the machine, also you can pay extra cost for long warranty time such as 24 months or 36 months.

> Before shipment, Could you please take testing video of Scrap Metal Chip Press Machine?

Yes, of course, we not only take videos of briquette press running before shipment, we will provide a production plan for you before manufacturing, and take videos, photos of the process of manufacturing according to the production plan to let you know the status of producing briquette press process clearly.

> What brand of oil pump does the Y83-3150 Iron Briquette Press Copper Chip Briquetting Press use?

We use china famous best oil pump supplier in China, the pump is durable and stable; also we can use other brands such as Rexroth, Parker, Yuken brand per your requirements.

> What is pressing force of Copper Swarf Briquetting Presses?

The pressing force of the  briquette press is different depends on different models, smaller machine has small pressing force, and bigger machines has big pressing force; and it is also determined by the material characteristics and bale density, our technical team will figure out and calculate the pressing force according to your requirements.

> Is there an “all-rounder” Brass Chips Briquetting Machine for all possible materials?

Don't have a ""all-rounder"" briquette press, Stop looking for a nonexistent universal briquette press. Instead, follow this process: Analyze Your Mix: Identify the 80%—what is the majority of your scrap? Choose a briquette press (most likely a Heavy-Duty Horizontal briquette press) that is optimally designed for that 80%.; Manage the 20%: For the remaining problematic scrap (stringy, oversized), invest in the necessary pre-processing equipment or decide to process it separately.Consult an Expert: The best solution is always tailored. Provide a detailed list of your materials to a reputable briquette press manufacturer or dealer. They can recommend a machine that offers the broadest capability for your specific mix, which is the true definition of an ""all-rounder"" for your business.
