Description

A Two-Ram Aluminum Can Press Baler with Conveyor represents the high-end, high-throughput industrial workhorse of aluminum can recycling. This is the machine used by major recycling facilities (MRFs) and scrap yards that process tons of cans daily.

Let's break down what makes this system special, its components, and why it's used.

Core Concept: The Two-Ram Design

Unlike single-ram balers (which use one ram for both compression and ejection), a two-ram system has dedicated rams for specific tasks, creating a continuous, efficient cycle.

Typical Ram Functions:

Main Compression Ram (Feed Ram): Located on the side. It compacts cans horizontally from the "charging box" into the main "baling chamber."

Ejection/Blocking Ram (Door Ram): Located at the front, as part of the bale chamber door. It holds the forming bale in place during compression and later pushes the finished bale out.

Key Components of the Full System

Infeed Conveyor: A robust, often inclined, conveyor belt that automatically feeds loose or pre-crushed cans into the baler's charging box. This eliminates manual labor and enables continuous operation.

Charging Box: The entry chamber where cans accumulate before being compressed.

Main Compression Ram: The powerhouse that rams cans into the baling chamber with immense force (e.g., 120+ tons).

Baling Chamber: The rectangular tunnel where the bale is formed. Its dimensions determine the final bale size (e.g., 30" x 30" x up to 48").

Ejection/Blocking Ram: A smaller but strong ram integrated into the chamber's front door.

Automatic Wire Tying System: Wires are fed through channels in the chamber and automatically twisted around the bale. Typically uses 6-8 wires.

Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU): The heart of the system, containing the reservoir, pumps, valves, and coolers to generate the hydraulic pressure.

Electrical Control Panel: Houses the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) for automated cycling, diagnostics, and safety controls.

How It Works (The Automated Cycle)

This is where the two-ram design shines in efficiency:

Feeding: Cans are conveyed into the charging box.

Compression Stroke: The main ram extends, pushing the material into the baling chamber. The ejection ram is partially extended at this point, acting as a "backstop" to resist the pressure and start forming the bale.

Retraction & Repeat: The main ram retracts. More cans are fed into the charging box. The main rams cycles again, adding more material to the bale-in-progress. The ejection ram may retract slightly with each cycle to allow for bale length adjustment.

Bale Full: When the bale reaches the pre-set length (monitored by a sensor or cycle count), the main ram makes its final compression stroke and holds.

Tying: The automatic tying system binds the bale with wires.

Ejection: Once tied, the main ram retracts fully. The ejection ram then extends completely, pushing the finished bale out of the chamber onto a waiting rack or floor.

Reset: The ejection ram retracts, the door closes, and the cycle restarts. This can often happen in under 90 seconds.

Major Advantages

Very High Throughput: Can process tons of cans per hour. The continuous cycle (one ram compresses while the other resets/ejects) minimizes downtime.

Superior Bale Density & Consistency: Creates extremely dense, square, and uniform bales (often 30+ lbs/cu.ft), which are prized by aluminum mills and command top dollar.

Full Automation: From conveyor feed to automatic tying and ejection. Requires minimal operator intervention.

Durability & Power: Built for 24/7 industrial use with heavy-duty steel and powerful hydraulics.

Safety: Automated feeding keeps operators away from the compression area. Built-in safety interlocks are standard.

Typical Use Cases

Large Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs)

Scrap Metal Recycling Yards

Beverage Distribution Center Recycling Hubs

Major Municipal Recycling Programs

Aluminum Smelter & Mill Feedstock Preparation

Considerations & Costs

High Capital Cost: This is a major industrial investment, often ranging from $80,000 to $200,000+ depending on size, age, and features.

Significant Space Requirement: Needs a large, concrete-floored industrial space with high ceilings.

Installation & Infrastructure: Requires professional installation, a 3-phase high-voltage electrical supply, and proper foundation.

Maintenance: Requires regular hydraulic system maintenance, wire system checks, and general wear-part inspection by trained personnel.

Leading Manufacturers

Harris: The industry leader (e.g., HRB Series Balers)

SSI Shredding Systems: Renowned for heavy-duty systems

Sierra International Machinery: Known for robust scrap processing equipment

Maren Engineering: Manufacturers of two-ram "Super Can Balers" specifically for UBCs.

Summary: Is This the Right Machine for You?

A Two-Ram Baler with Conveyor is not for a small store or community drop-off. It's for a serious, high-volume commercial operation.

Ask yourself these questions:
✅ Do we process multiple tons of aluminum cans per day?
✅ Do we have the space, power, and budget for a large industrial machine?
✅ Is our goal to produce mill-grade bales for maximum resale value with minimal labor?
✅ Is our operation running near 8+ hours per day?

If you answered yes to these, then this system is the logical endpoint for efficiency and profitability. If your volume is lower, a single-ram horizontal baler or even a large vertical baler would be a more appropriate and cost-effective choice.

Would you like a comparison of specific models or a deeper dive into the economic payback analysis for such a system?

FAQ

> Does Metal Scrap Wires Baling Machine need any foundation installation?
For small baler, just put it on the horizontal cement ground, that is OK, and for heavy duty baler, then need a foundation, we will send you a foundation drawing before you install the baler.

> What is cooling system of Aluminum Can Recycling Baler Machine?
Normally speaking, for the cooling of baler, we have 2 types of cooling system, one is water cooling, this cooling system is economical and easy to achieve cooling effect, and another type is industrial chiller which have better cooling effect than waste cooling, oil chiller cover small space, but price is just a little high than water cooling.

> What kind of materials can be compressed by Scrap Steel Compactor Machine?
The baler can press various of ferrous metal scrap such as light metal scrap, metal swarfs, steel chips etc and non ferrous metal scrap such as copper scrap, aluminium scrap, stainless steel scrap etc; you can send some photos and videos of material which do you want to compress, then will check with our general engineer, and will suggest you suitable baler accordingly.

> What are common maintenance issues with Tcm Cans Tins Baling Machine
The common maintenance issues for the baler listed as below: 1. Clear the area of bale out every day, Inspect if have materials on the limit switch, if yes, please clear the materials, Clear the area around the machine every day, Inspect if any oil leakage from connects or cylinders.; 2. Week Inspection, Inspect all the connects and watch if loose or not, if loose, please tighten the connects timely, Inspect all the screws and watch if loose or not, if loose, please tighten the screws timely,Inspect if have materials on the piston rod, if have, please remove timely, Inspect the oil level and watch if it is on the indicated position; 3.Annual Inspection, Filter the hydraulic oil within 6 months from the beginning of the machine running, Change or filter the hydraulic oil every year, Clear the oil tank totally every year, Use sieve with more than 100 mesh when filtering the hydraulic oil.

> What is output capacity of Compacting Aluminum Cans Baler?
The baler capacity ranges from 300kg per hour to 30000kg per hour, different models has different capacity, small models has small output capacity, and bigger one has big capacity accordingly, we also can customize the baler according to your special requirement.

> What all do I need to install the Metal Scrap Heavy Duty Hydraulic Baler?
After the baler arrived your place, you need to prepare the hydraulic oil, cable wire, worker, electrical technician, then you can start to test and operate the baler machine per user manual, or make video call with our engineer, our technical team will guide and help you get everything done.
